How to start a task you keep putting off
Putting something off does not automatically mean you lack motivation. Maybe the first action is vague, the tools are not ready, or you are waiting for more energy than you have. You can lower the barrier without making promises you cannot keep.
Try this method first
1. Identify the actual friction
Is the obstacle missing information, low energy, fear of a costly mistake, or simply not knowing where to begin? «Catch up on everything» is hard to start. «Open the document and read the first paragraph» is concrete.
2. Make the start last one minute
Put the needed item within reach, open the file, or draft one sentence. The minute is for entering the task, not for finishing or proving productivity. If you discover something missing, name exactly what you need.
3. Choose the next move after the minute
Continue for five minutes if it helps, or stop intentionally and set a realistic next time. Sometimes the best result is learning why the task was difficult. Avoid turning a small experiment into another obligation.
Everyday example
If you have been avoiding a difficult email, write only a working subject line and one opening sentence without sending it. Then decide whether you need more information or can continue.
Your next step
A small start reduces the gap between thinking about the task and actually trying it.
You can use this method without LIFE. The free tool offers three alternatives and an optional one-minute start timer.

Too many things to do? Find a place to start
A practical way to start when your to-do list feels overwhelming: spot real deadlines, shrink the task, and check what changed.
Can't make a decision? Start with a smaller question
When everyday choices leave you stuck, separate facts from unknowns and try one reversible next step before committing.
